The Summer I Turned Pretty Series Finale & Movie Announcement: Here’s What We Know So Far
It’s happening! And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Jenny Han’s wildly beloved series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, is officially getting the movie treatment. Though production hasn’t kicked off just yet, fans are already buzzing with questions: Who will Belly choose? Are Taylor and Steven really endgame? What surprises still lie ahead in Cousins Beach?
And perhaps the biggest question of all: When will we get to see it? Jenny Han herself recently addressed the excitement and the wait, saying, "It's still a little too soon to say…we don’t know when it’s coming out, but not next year. We still have to make it!” So while it might be 2027 before we return to the world of beach bonfires and summer love, Han’s words offer more than just a glimmer of hope. they promise something truly special.
SPOILERS: For those who’ve seen the finale, yes, that 22nd birthday in Paris becomes the stage for Belly’s clearest moment of truth yet. With her engagement to Jeremiah already behind her, the tension between what she’s lost, what she’s unsure of, and what she might still have with Conrad builds to a head. There’s loss, heartbreak, and doubt, especially Belly wondering if her feelings for Conrad have more to do with grief than genuine love. And that train station scene in Brussels? Instant sweaty palms. Belly chases him down, risking everything (and maybe looking more herself in that moment than she has in a long time) and says what she couldn’t before: “If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you.” It’s more than a declaration, it’s a homecoming.
Although there’s no wedding, no diamond ring moment in the finale, the final image of Belly and Conrad walking back to Cousins Beach together is one of commitment, possibility, and a sense of peace. It feels like the ending we needed, but also the end of this chapter only!
As for why the story is getting a full-length feature film, Han shared that this final milestone in Belly’s journey deserves something bigger: "I can say that there is another big milestone for Belly, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due, so we'll continue with that journey." Amazon Studios and Prime Video will remain at the helm of production, continuing the creative partnership that helped bring Han’s vision from page to screen. And it’s clear that partnership is deeply meaningful. "I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans."
So while there’s no official release date yet, the countdown has unofficially begun. Whether you're still reeling from the emotional finale or just starting your first binge, one thing is certain: this story isn’t over, and the best may be yet to come. And for fans who watched that final sun-soaked episode; the birthday in Paris, the unexpected kiss between two surprising characters, the twists, the tension, the quiet decisions, you probably already have theories of your own. From the emotional complexity between Conrad and Jeremiah, to a new spark with Denise in the mix, and the bittersweet reality of growing up, the finale left plenty unsaid. And plenty to look forward to. The movie promises to give us closure, catharsis, and maybe, just maybe, that one perfect summer ending back at the house in Cousins where it all began, and where, if we’re lucky, it will all come full circle.
